I worked with Teenage
girls that were either homeless, had a probation officer or worked with a
therapist. What I learned is that our youth are more resilient than we give
them credit for. I was there to show them how to use art as a catalyst for
growth, to find a voice when they lost it, and use creativity to ground them
when they felt lost. What I discovered was my own voice as an artist. I've learned
how to share my story and my experiences in life.
I now use that method when creating a portrait for a client.
I use their words, their experiences and hopes. Also with my abstract
paintings, they come from a place of raw emotions and build in a story of a
time and place. I have also done this with clients where they share the mood
they are looking for, the tone and personality of the person or the room that
it will be in. I then take in all of that information and translate it onto
canvas creating a piece that is unique to who they are.
